Projection screens are installations consisting of surfaces and support structures used to display projected images for audience consumption. A range of projection screens are available, from those suitable for front projection, rear projection, holographic display, and different surfaces such as fabric screens, vinyl or glass surfaces as well as many types of accessories like frames, clips woven-ware hardware, etc.

An accompanying component of a projection screen serves to protect its surface, integrate better into its surroundings, absorb sound and light as well and facilitate easier installation or transport. These components typically fall into either of two categories: hardware or woven-ware.

Frames and clips are hardware pieces used to attach screen fabric to its support frame, making installation and removal simpler. Available as both wall- and ceiling-mount versions, tensioned screens use their internal pressure to keep the fabric flat against their support structure; non-tensioned models may wiggle due to the breeze from air conditioning units or people milling around, potentially creating temporary imperfections in projected images.

Many screen fabrics boast high gain levels that reflect light back to the audience, yet this may not always be desirable as too much reflectivity can lead to washout - a condition in which the brightest areas appear darkened or washed out.
